In response to feedback from our members, the Board of the MA LGBTQ Bar Association, in collaboration with Aedan Dunn (they/them) of the Committee For Transgender Inclusion, advocated to change the language on the back of Massachusetts bar cards to do away with language that was not inclusive of our non-binary and agender members. The Board of Bar Overseers immediately reacted to our advocacy and ensured that its next order of bar cards will be inclusive for people of all genders and who use all pronouns. The cards are ordered in batches, so we may not see the change reflected immediately. We are hoping that the change will take effect before the largest renewal period takes place in late summer.

If ever there is an issue of LGBTQ inclusion in the Massachusetts legal system or community, we hope that members know they can reach out for advocacy from our Board. We are delighted that we could help the BBO see this problem and that once apparent a plan for resolution was formed immediately.
